Civic coalition “Enough wars” under the parole “We survived war, we don’t wish it to others”, gathered all of us who were determined to silence the war calls from the political elites with our actions, in time when ruling politicians and those in opposition supported the American aggression on Iraq and with that becoming a part of the globalized world who leads “holy” wars of terror and terrorism and looks on ordinary people as collateral damage. The only damage they are concerned is how much oil they will lose.

“Enough wars!” showed that there is a part of Croatia that is also a part of the globalized world, the part who wants the end of all wars, terror, terrorism and breaking of human rights. A part of the world which believes and tries to show that a different world is possible. A movement that decisively opposed the hypocritical politics of double standards. The fight for human rights means systematic devotion and solidarity with all world citizens, and is opposed to the strategic tolerating or supporting of local dictators while they are obedient and overthrowing them when they are not. Therefore it was told to home and world advocates of military intervention in Iraq: Not in our name!

The biggest activity was the demonstration on 15th February 2003 as part of the global day for action of the antiwar movement. On the event on the square Bane Jelacic in Zagreb there was around 10.000 citizens. Co-organizers were Antifascist action Zagreb who with their anarchist march joined the event as well as the demonstrative walk to the embassy of USA. Marches with organizational support from “Enough wars!” were organized in at least 16 other towns: Rijeka, Pula, Porec, Sali, Zadar, Sibenik, Knin, Split, Dubrovnik, Ivanec, Vukovar, Osijek, Slavonski Bord, Opatija, Bjelovar, Karlovac. Other big action under the name of “With noise against war” was organized on 5th March 2003. That two hours long and noisy march was attended by 500 citizens.

On these events among other activities were also held two petitions. Petition against military intervention in Iraq with which we wanted canceling of the declaration of the Vilnius group and neutrality of Croatia, as well as petition against joining the NATO alliance.

Perhaps the most interesting action happened on 27 February after the march in front of the parliament when Drago, Slavica, Biljana and Hrvoje “smuggled” a transparent “Enough wars!” in the parliament. They hanged the transparent from the parliament gallery at the time when Prime minister Racan was giving an explanation why were the Americans granted the use of Croatian airspace. From February to March 2003 “Enough wars!” every day organized 17-18 hour demonstrations in front of the American embassy, and we expressed our opposition to the aggression with daily messages. As part of the peaceful demonstration we asked the driver with banners “Horn for peace” to support us. From the other activities I will distinguish the Round table “War in Iraq: what Iraq means to us?”, as well as the performance “Sarajevo 1993 Baghdad 2003”.

For the end I would like to cite the words of the big humanist and recently passed away academic Ivan Supek said on the march “Enough wars!” in Zagreb: “The danger form weapons for mass destruction is real and big, but it’s not new, it exists more than 50 years. That’s why we, the peace activists, for long time are asking the only possible solution, and that’s the general and absolute disarmament of all countries. The world is not endangered just by the weapons for mass destruction, but more and more with the process of globalization which serves for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer”.

„Od osvajanja Poljske do danas, stotine tisuca Jevreja je bilo ubijeno u ovoj zemlji na najzverskiji nacin... Njemacki narod drema svoj dosadni san i time ohrabruje ove fašisticke kriminalce... Svaki covjek želi biti izuzet od krivnje ovakvog tipa, svi se nastavljaju mirno kretati svojim putem sa najcistijom savješcu. Ali oni ne mogu biti izuzeti: oni su krivi, krivi, krivi“
